Raine Klover/Iconolatrie
iconolatrie - n. Worship of icons or images.
A former gypsy (living in Seattle, Dallas, New Orleans,
Dayton, Ohio, and Princeton, W.V., in the past 10 years)
I've finally settled in Albuquerque. I've been in love with
New Mexico since I was 11 and discovered the paintings of
Georgia O'Keeffe. Her desert landscapes, skull abstractions,
and brooding cityscapes continue to be some of my favorite
pieces of art. A lot of my work chronicles that ongoing
love affair with New Mexico.
My work is eclectic but is a true reflection of my many
experiences and interests. My artistic journey began back
in 2000 with a gift of Photoshop and has grown exponentially
since moving to New Mexico in 2004. Now I can't imagine
life without my camera - it's my third eye - my true artistic
eye - and it rarely misses a thing. My work has changed
these last few years, moving from mixed media to acrylics
and currently focusing on photography and encaustic painting.
My photography is not about capturing a moment - it is about
capturing emotions and creating visual allegories. I believe
that's why I'm drawn to photo collage as it allows me to
assemble and edit images to create a story. I love sitting
at my computer and layering disparate images on top of each
other - until something leaps out of the screen at me -
and I recognize the story these images are trying to tell
me.
Other foci of my life include my growing family, connecting
with other artists - specifically through "artist trading
cards" - and the Wheels Museum organization. Throw in a
full-time job as a graphic artist and production manager
at a local sign shop and even I begin to wonder when I sleep!
Current solo exhibition at Satellite Coffee, 3513 Central
Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
