Greetings! I'm Mary Tafoya and I live and work in the Duke
City with these other renegades ;-) On Etsy, I'm seriousbeader.
I've lived in Albuquerque's Old Town neighborhood -- the
soul of the city -- for about 15 years, and before that
I lived farther out in the North Valley -- the wonderful
semi-rural heart of the city. I get a lot of inspiration
walking and working along the acequias, the irrigation canals
that feel to me like the lifeblood of this town.
My training is in studio art, graphic design, and education
but my passion is beadwork and mixed media art. I teach
at the Harwood Art Center, China Phoenix II and other venues,
such as Bead Expo (a national gathering). I launched my
educational Web site for beaders, Aunt Molly's Bead Street,
back in 1997, and later put up a portfolio site called Mary
Tafoya: Beadwork to house my resume and gallery work. After
selling and blogging on eBay for awhile, I took the plunge
and started a new blog, Mary Tafoya's Seriousbeadin' (and
other excitements).
Etsy is SO cool, because I can market my artwork without
leaving home. Etsy also gives me a venue for parting with
my embarrasingly vast collection of vintage cabochons, beads,
sequins, and ephemera. In addition, I've been doing more
and more custom jewelry, thanks to Etsy. So, if you see
something that needs a little tweaking, or if you have precious
little objects that you want incorporated into jewelry,
feel free to contact me.
